Baia Yachts: From a small wooden cruising company to an internationally renowned shipyard

The history of Baia Yachts dates back to 1961, when Mericraft was founded as a small wooden boat building factory in Naples. In 1968, the company moved to Baia, a port located on the Gulf of Naples with a well-established maritime tradition. This allowed the company to recruit talented craftsmen to improve its production.

Initially, the shipyard worked on wooden-hulled day cruiser projects for local buyers in Naples.

However, the management of the company ran into difficulties that threatened the completion of a restoration project for the Capasso family.

In 1972, the Capasso family acquired the shipyard and renamed it Cantieri di Baia. From that moment on, the company began to focus on the production of luxury yachts.

In fact, the purchase of the shipyard led to the creation of the revolutionary Pascià yacht in 1997. This yacht stands out for its large round stern, its fiberglass structure and hull, as well as its elegant deck and teak interior.

The success of Baia Yachts – Pioneer in composite construction

From 1980 onwards, the shipyard switched to manufacturing boats entirely in counter-molded fiberglass. In fact, Baia developed high-speed hulls that proved to be ideal platforms for Arneson surface propulsion.
In 1983, the yard launched the new B50 series of motor yachts, whose hull was designed by the famous American designer Don Aronow. It is a fast yacht with brilliant performance and elegant and refined lines. As a result, the boat became very popular in the American market. With this success, the company consolidates its reputation worldwide.

The new B81 motor yacht was so successful that the company produced 106 models over the next ten years.

In 1990, a B50 won the prestigious Venice-Montecarlo race.

Since then, Baia has continued to design larger, high-performance models. Later, the shipyard launched a line of “green” motor yachts called Sevolution.

Open superyachts conquer new markets

In 1986, Baia made a strategic decision to focus on the production of large Open superyachts. This initiative was designed to meet the growing demand and thus to enter new markets. Six years later, the shipyard launched its B80 superyacht. It was a great international success. Today, the technologically advanced version of this Open cruiser sails at 50 knots on the seas.
Also in the same year, Baia joins the world of cabin cruises with the production of its first 105-foot superyacht.

Baia Yachts’ development and innovation

Over the decades, Baia Yachts expands its hold on the international markets. In addition, the shipyard creates partnerships with dealers around the world. Baia also introduced many innovations, such as the first 48-foot convertible of the sea, called “Coupé”. Also the fabulous Italia 70, equipped with a rear door that retracts into the ceiling to create a considerably open space on the main deck.
The success of Baia boats is the result of its constant research and development of innovative technologies and materials.
