Want to know the price of your boat?
Determining the right price for your boat is a major step, before making an offer that is adapted to the current market. It is one of the key factors to sell your boat in a reasonable time. The selling price is the main lever to trigger the sale of a boat, so it is the right price that guarantees contacts with potential buyers. The right price does not necessarily mean a sale, but it is a prerequisite. In all cases, it is essential to avoid a price that is out of line with the market, otherwise the sale will be bogged down for several months. Contrary to popular belief, it is very common for a boat to be sold at a price very close to the asking price: if the boat is at the right price, the transaction can be concluded without negotiating the price.
MED’IN BOATS will estimate the price of your boat for free. To do this, we use three different methods.
Competitive analysis
Competitors’ prices, age of existing ads give us the market trend.
Calculation “Argus”
A calculation based on “Argus”, taking into account all existing invoices and the condition of the boat.
Satistical study
A statistical study of the latest comparable sales.
How to sell your boat ?
Our tips
As part of the Sunbird International Yacht Sales Yachts network, Med’in Boats has all the tools and know-how to sell your boat better and faster, thanks to our international communication network. Our priority is that the transactions take place in mutual confidence, respecting the interests of the buyer and the seller.
Our mission is to always live up to the trust placed in us by our clients for the sale or purchase of their boat.
Step 1: Define the selling price of the boat!
In the used boat market, it is very important to define the selling price of the boat. The objective is to present the best offer, adapted to the current market. This is the key factor in attracting contacts with potential buyers and securing the sale.
Step 2 : Visit of the boat
In general, our team visits all the boats, before putting them up for sale. During the visit, our brokers bring back all the necessary information for the constitution of the boat’s file. In particular: the history, the inventory of the boat, as well as taking photos and videos. The objective of the visit is to be able to communicate to potential buyers clarity, precision and transparency. In cases where the boat is located too far from our agencies, the owner is responsible for providing us with all the elements we require to correctly estimate the sale price.
Etape 3 : Presentation of the boat
To guarantee the good progress of the day of the expertise and thus the sale of your boat, it is essential to present it well.
How to prepare your boat ?
– Clean the different parts of your boat, even the least visible ones.
– For a sailboat for sale, its sails must be tidy, clean and in good condition (or reported bad condition).
– The fairing must have been done recently.
– The deck must be clean and tidy.
– Wood and stainless steel must be clean
– Bilge, bottom and storage are cleaned, sanitized. Think about bad smells and use a deodorizer.
– The water supply of the boat must be working.
– The fridge, cooler and/or freezer must be clean and operational.
– The stove is operational and cleaned.
– The toilet and shower are working and clean.
– The onboard electronics and navigation instruments are in working order (general electricity, navigation equipment,
windlass, thruster) or reported broken.
– On the mechanical side, the boat’s engine must not be dirty, full of oil or leaking. It must be up to date with maintenance.
In order to reassure the future buyer, it is preferable to do an engine oil analysis, if the boat does not have a time meter.
It is normal that all used boats have some defects. It is therefore advisable to always talk about them to avoid any disturbances and unpleasant surprises at the time of the purchase decision. Every detail is important to ensure the quality of the boat offer. We take into account every element related to the presentation of the boat, the writing of the inventory and the quality of the photos in the ads. It is thanks to the accuracy of these factors that the offer will be relevant on the market.
Step 4 : Documents of the boat for sale
In order to enhance the value of the boat and to reassure the buyers, we need, from the start, the necessary documents from the owner:
– Purchase invoices, replacement invoices, maintenance invoices.
– Summaries of work or expenses carried out.
– Copies of previous appraisal reports if available.
– Copy of the charter deed.
– Copy of the depreciation table if the boat is under lease.
– CE conformity certificates. The more documents we have, the more confidence we give to the buyers.
To remember : Positioning at the right price + efforts to present the boat + complete and detailed inventory = Sale of the boat assured within a reasonable time
Step 5: The non-exclusive mandate
Within the framework of a non-exclusive mandate, you keep the freedom to :
Sell your boat yourself without using the services of our company.
Sell your boat through another professional.
Cancel the mandate at the end of the period indicated on the mandate.
However, the mandate commits the owner (or the LOA lessee) to a “public” sale price which must be identical on all the ads published: you cannot offer your boat in the ads that you publish directly or through another professional at a price lower than the one agreed on the mandate.
Step 6: The exclusive mandate
Within the framework of a non-exclusive mandate, you keep the freedom to :
Sell your boat yourself without using the services of our company.
Sell your boat through another professional.
Cancel the mandate at the end of the period indicated on the mandate. However, the mandate commits the owner (or the LOA lessee) to a “public” sale price which must be identical on all the ads published: you cannot offer your boat in the ads that you publish directly or through another professional at a price lower than the one agreed on the mandate.
Step 7: Onboard visits with potential buyers
Our mission is to take care of all the steps, preceding the sale of the boat. Our team carefully selects the clients and organizes the visits. We do our best to ensure that the visit goes smoothly, so that the potential buyers take the necessary time to visit the boat. During the visits, nothing is turned on (engine, electronics…) without a written authorization from you.
Step 8 : Offers to buy your boat
As an intermediary between the owner and the buyer, our role is to facilitate the buying process. If necessary, we advise the buyer to formulate a realistic offer, which would be acceptable to the owner. Our mission is to engage in a constructive negotiation, respecting the interests of the owner and the buyer. If the client decides to buy the boat, following the visit, we sign a preliminary sales agreement with a down payment of 10% of the sale price. All the process is respected in relation to the conditions foreseen in the sales mandate.
In case the buyer wishes to propose a price below the price fixed in the mandate, it is required to formulate his offer in writing. After receiving the offer, the owner must decide whether to accept it or not.
Step 9 : Expertise
The expertise is a very important step in the buying process. It is essential that the buyer is informed of the real state of the boat concerned by an independent expert. As soon as the compromise is signed, the buyer is responsible for choosing, commissioning and paying the marine surveyor. In general, the survey takes place one week after the signature of the agreement. The surveyor provides the final report to the buyer about ten days after the survey. The Med’in Boats team does everything possible to sell your boat as quickly as possible, thanks to our professionalism, reactivity and transparency, proven in the last 20 years.
