How was the Amel shipyard born?

In 1964, passionate about sailing, Henri Amel dreamed of building sturdy sailboats. He followed his vocation and launched his own body shop in Paris. Then, he set up a shipyard in La Rochelle.

Today, all Amel models are built in La Rochelle.

Amel sailboats are renowned for their 100% made in France construction quality and French know-how for over 50 years.

The first models of Amel sailboats in 1964 vary from 5 to 10 meters. They are: Super Mistral Sport, Alision and Copain. As a result, the shipyard builds the 11 meters models – Euro 39 and Kirk. In the 70’s, Amel launched several models from 11 to 16 meters: Meltem, Maramu, Sharki and Mango.

When Amel stands out in the boating market?

Between 1988 and 1997, the Amel shipyard produced its two exceptional models – the 16-meter Super Maramu and the 14-meter Amel Santorin.

The launch of the first Super Maramu 2000 in 1997 was a real success for the shipyard. Moreover, this model won the Best Boat of the Year award for the year 2000.

Until today Amel Super Maramu 2000 presents one of the real best sellers of Amel boats on the market.
